Ceremony to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of the 2003 Canberra Bushfires

  • Stromlo Forest Park Bushfire Memorial Dave McInnes Road Stromlo, ACT, 2611 Australia (map)

Host: Mick Gentleman MLA, Minister for Police and Emergency Services

This day is a day of reflection, as we honour the four lives that were lost, the impact on wildlife and nature, the homes and properties that were destroyed and those who were displaced by the disaster. We will commend the efforts made by first responders and community members who came together to save so many more properties. The event will provide opportunity for government, first responders, and community, to not only remember, but to reflect on how far we’ve collectively come.

Invited attendees include MLAs, federal members, representatives from across ACT Government, volunteer members, community councils, union representatives, and people who were active in the 2003 emergency response.

ACTRFS and ACTSES members please note that there is no expectation that you wear your uniform but you may do so if you wish.. Please arrive at 6:00pm to allow time to park and make your way to the memorial site for the ceremony start time of 6:30pm.

Community members are encouraged to attend the memorial throughout the day to take a moment of reflection and place rosemary sprigs in the pond. General public is welcome to attend and observe the ceremony from grassed areas adjacent to the memorial site.
